Youth Leadership Program

Since TI has eliminated the Youth Leadership Program from the DTM requirements, so many of us put it aside and think there is no benefit to the Toastmaster to hold a YL. How wrong can we be? The advantages are evident.

There are no disadvantages. Think of the speech ideas you can get from the participants. Think of the practicing you do in front of a 'different' audience. If all of your speeches are in front of your club members, you are not using your Toastmaster benefits for real life. You never know when you might have to address a group of young people. YL is a good start. The coordination, the participation are more rewarding than you can imagine. Every coordinator comes away with more than he/she contributed.

What about the advantage for the young people who are receiving Toastmaster training? You are looking to add members to your club? YL is a good starting place. The impression this program makes on them will stay with them. The self-esteem they gain is not measureable to us but you will see them change through the course of the program. The rewards are greater than you can see immediately for all participants and the for the coordinator. I can say enough about how good YL is for everyone, but Jim you are doing it well.
